In this episode, Dr. Benjamen Lipsky joins us to discuss the 2012 IDSA Clinical Practice Guideline for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Diabetic Foot Infections. Dr. Lipsky talks about the diagnosis of diabetic foot infections including clinical assessment, when imaging should be obtained, the place of culture and when to order a bone biopsy for osteomyelitis. Then Dr. Lipsky discusses the microbiology of diabetic foot infections, recommendations for wound care, and antibiotic recommendations.
